Our Program Is Designed To:

Introduce public relations (PR) principles and give you practical experience in the field of PR. You will be paired with some of the best PR practitioners in the world, who will mentor and provide firsthand experience and insight into 21st century global communications. By working on client projects, you will learn general business strategy, industry trends and key customers and competitors in the U.S. marketplace. Our tailor-made training program and on-the-job experience will develop your writing, presentation, communication and client service skills.

Who Are We Looking For?

Candidates will be fluent in Mandarin and English and are full-time undergraduate students graduating in the spring semester/quarter of 2012. Students must be willing to work at a Fleishman-Hillard U.S. office for up to one year after graduation and then relocate to a Fleishman-Hillard China office. Consideration will be given to students in all areas of study who possess well-developed research, writing and communication skills. We encourage individuals with an interest in PR, communications, international business or professional services to apply.

What You Will Receive:

A U.S. $5,000 scholarship to be used for tuition expenses incurred in the spring 2012 semester/quarter. Upon graduation, the student will be considered for an entry-level position with a Fleishman-Hillard office in the U.S. After successful completion of up to one year employment in the U.S., Fleishman-Hillard and the student will discuss transferring to a China office or another office in the Fleishman-Hillard network that will benefit from his or her training, education and bilingual skills.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide client support by monitoring, researching, compiling and analyzing client media coverage, including print, TV, radio and various publications
  • Write, edit and proofread materials in AP style, including press releases, pitch letters, fact sheets and client correspondence with supervisor guidance
  • Aid teams in pitching story ideas and participate in brainstorming sessions
  • Participate in the new business process, including research and proposal preparation
  • Collaborate on additional projects based on office needs

Criteria to Apply for China Masters Exchange (CME) Program:

  • Candidates must be full-time enrolled students and graduating in the spring 2012 semester/quarter
  • Candidates must be fluent (speaking and writing) in English and Mandarin
  • Candidates must be able to work in the U.S. via an approved work visa

The Completed Form Must Be Accompanied By:

  • A cover letter
  • A resume
  • Two letters of recommendation from internship employers, educators or others
  • Up to two writing samples in Mandarin; please limit to five pages each
  • Up to two writing samples in English; please limit to five pages each

Judging Criteria:

Applications will be judged using the following criteria:

  • Interest and general knowledge of public relations/communications
  • Academic achievements
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Practical experience, e.g. internships, other work/service
  • Writing skills as demonstrated throughout the application
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Entries are judged by a committee of Fleishman-Hillard professionals
  • The scholarship will be made payable to the student in the spring semester/quarter of 2012 and can only be used to fund the winner’s tuition

Selection Timeline:

  • Application deadlines vary by university: Washington University (closed);
    George Washington University (closed); Stanford University (Feb. 29); London School of Economics (TBD)
  • Scholarship recipients will be notified throughout December and January
  • Scholarship payments will be available for the spring semester/quarter of 2012
